The Infrastructure Construction Regulatory Commission(NICRC), has adviced the Federal Government, to review downward of the contract sum, for the construction of the second Niger Bridge.
Director general of the NICRC, Amin Diko, gave this advice gave this advice at an interaction with state house correspondent on Wednesday, after a meeting of the co-management both President Buhari.
Alabainfo Marvelous Pjohnson, reports that Diko, who asked Nigerians to be patient, about the project, if they are to get value for the money that they will expand on the project.
Construction of the third Niger Bridge, seems to be generating unending controversy. For instance, on January 16, 2015, former president of Nigerian, Goodluck Jonathan. Had told his audience at Asaba, Delta state that 10 billion Naira out of the 130 billion Naira, earmarked for the second Niger Bridge, had been spent.
On the other hand, Governor Adams Oshiomole, last week, alleged that 140 billion Naira, had been spent on the consultancy alone of the project.
The cost of the project, came up again at the meeting of the Regulatory Agency For Public, Private Partnership at the meeting with President Buhari.
Diko, in the interaction, said <em>"We will also look at the actual costing of the project. We have asked the ministry of works to review it, and justify how much it will cost for the project."</em>
If Aminu Diko's exposition, is anything to go by, then those who clamour for the early completion of the Second Niger bridge, will have to make do with the existing bridge for now.
<em>"The Communities around that area, are clamouring that their lands, have been taken, an they are not being compensated adequately.
As a matter of fact, we got a letter from the Onitsha Traditional Council, complaining that they have not been adequately represented in this transactio<em>n</em>."</em> Diko said;.
Diko also stated that President Buhari at the meeting, directed the commission to collaborate with State Government to encourage farmers of the utilization of the sylow built by the Federal Government. The Sylow, will be handed over to private sectors for effective management.
