News broke out at the end of August that Cheshire Police had arrested Manchester City full-back Benjamin Mendy, who was charged with four counts of rape and one count of sexual assault.
This was later confirmed by the club in a statement, which read:
Manchester City can confirm that following his being charged by police today, Benjamin Mendy has been suspended pending an investigation. The matter is subject to a legal process and the club is therefore unable to make further comment until that process is complete.
Defender Denied bail a third time
As per BBC News, the Manchester City defender has been denied bail for the third time, meaning that he will remain in police custody until his trial on January 24th 2022, where he has been for the last seven weeks.
Should he be found guilty, the case would mark the end of Mendy’s playing career at any level, and most likely a very severe prison sentence.
