Newcastle have reportedly joined the race to sign the former Inter Milan striker next summer.
After the £300million takeover by the Saudi family, the Magpies are now expected to compete financially with other big clubs in the transfer market.
It was previously reported that financial analysts have calculated that the Magpies will be able to spend well over £200m strengthening their squad in the next three years, without breaching Financial Fair Play rules.
Italian publication Calcio Mercator, have now reported that they are eyeing up a potential move for the 28-year-old striker.
Newcastle could though face competition for the Paris Saint-German forward, with both Tottenham and Juventus also interested in his signature.
Icardi initially joined PSG on a loan in 2019, after scoring 124 goals in 219 appearances for Serie A giants Inter Milan before the deal was made permanent a year later.
Despite not getting as much game time, Icardi has scored 36 goals in 72 appearances while competing for places with the likes of Neymar, Mbappé and Lionel Messi.
Thanks to the backing of their new owners, Newcastle will be a force to be reckoned with in the transfer market going forward.
Newcastle are currently 19th in the Premier League and currently have Callum Wilson, Joelinton and Dwight Gayle as their available options up front.
